MGM Plans to Open up the Park Next to T-Mobile Arena on the Strip

The MGM is on a mission to revamp the north end of the Strip, more specifically the area behind the New York - New York and Monte Carlo. Construction for the Las Vegas Arena, soon to be named T-Mobile Arena, has been underway and is scheduled to be completed in the next couple of months. In addition to the arena, MGM has begun development on a new plaza area and a park.

MGM Resorts International and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) have split the costs of the Las Vegas Arena, a total project costing $375 million. In addition to the arena, the cost also includes a plaza that will be the entrance space. The plaza will house shopping centers and food options such as California Pizza Kitchen, Sake Rok, Bruxie, Shake Shack and a Beer Garden. Future plans include a 5,000 seat theater near the Monte Carlo Hotel.

MGM has also begun construction on a $100 million project it will fund on its own. A park space next to the plaza will give visitors a cool place to hang out and enjoy some rare greenery on the Strip.

Mature trees are currently being placed at the site and will include other shade structures and misting systems. The microclimate park is said to reduce the area temperature up to ten degrees. As the temperature can reach into the triple digits, this will become a heavily populated spot during the summer months.

The $100 million project also includes revamping parking garages on the properties and renovating the two MGM properties. One of the new changes could include a new name for the Monte Carlo.

The Las Vegas Arena is scheduled to host a number of musical concerts as well as sports events such as UFC 200 and UNLV basketball games. If you are in town for a corporate retreat, the Las Vegas Arena and the plaza park could be a fun chance for your team to hang out and enjoy the thrills of the Strip.
