Las Vegas Destination Management: Las Vegas Arena

Las Vegas has always expressed interest in creating a multipurpose arena that will provide a space for sports events and musical performances. Plans have been formed in the past to create such facilities but have always fallen through. An agreement made between MGM Resorts International and Anschutz Entertainment Group has led to the Las Vegas Arena, which will be completed and operational early 2016.

The Arena will encompass over 16 acres of land behind the New York-New York and the Monte Carlo. The project broke ground May 1, 2014, a year after MGM Resorts and AEG announced the joint plan. The estimated $375 million construction project includes pedestrian shopping and dining areas that will serve as the main gateway to the arena.

The Las Vegas Arena will house 20,000 seats and may even spark an interest in developing a professional hockey team for the city of Las Vegas. An event schedule has already been released for the first year of operation with The Killers, Wayne Newton and Shamir performing an opening night concert. Dana White, UFC president, has announced that UFC 200 will be held at the arena and will be the first sporting event to be held in the new space. Professional Bull Riders (PBR) will be moving its annual World Finals to the Las Vegas Arena for the 2016 season after spending 17 years at the Thomas and Mack Center.

The Las Vegas Arena could mean big things for the city of Las Vegas and could allow for professional sports to make its way to Sin City. This also offers a great opportunity for a corporate event.
